Pat O'Malley, PhD, Certified Life Between Lives® Hypnotherapist
In this issue, Savarna Wiley interviews Patricia Fares-O’Malley, PhD, LBL Facilitator and MNI Acting Director of Research. Pat is a psychotherapist, teacher, hypnotherapist and Certified LBL facilitator. She has been in private practice for over 30 years and has travelled internationally as a speaker, presenter and workshop facilitator.
She teaches meditation, guided imagery and hypnosis classes and offers an online course entitled Living Quantum Consciousness created by Peter Smith. She is a Quantum Consciousness Facilitator and is a Certified Grief and Stress Management Specialist. She served the Michael Newton Institute as Acting Director of Research from 2019-2021.
Pat is a published author, writer and is the creator of the acclaimed audio series, “The Power Within”, which is distributed worldwide.
Savarna Wiley is an instructor for the Newton Institute and has been facilitating LBL journeys since 2010. Based in Santa Cruz, CA- she serves clients in person in the Bay Area and on-line world wide.
Savarna: What in your background prepared you to do this work?
Pat: I began my career as a teacher of young children. I realized that children had so many personal issues – ones that often affected how they felt about themselves and their lives – that it was difficult for many of them to do well in school. So, I went on for a graduate degree in Psychology and Counseling. That opened the door to doing hypnotherapy with clients for targeting issues and swifter healing and eventually led to doing PLR’s for true deep healing issues. Then one day a book called “Journey of Souls” was in my hands. I still don’t know where it came from, if I ordered it or someone gave it me – but I read it – I was so blown away by the book, I immediately looked up how to be an LBL therapist and voila- here I am!
What prompted you to begin offering LBL’s?
As I read Journey of Souls, and then all of Michael’s subsequent books, I realized that I had been looking for this kind of understanding and knowing all of my life. I felt deep within myself a knowing about this work, and its power to heal, not only myself but all people who would be called to it – for a way to open my clients to their own true natural wisdom and beauty. This was it! In addition, through my prayers I had asked to meet like – minded people, who shared my vision, my values, my ideas and who worked together in a community of love. And this I found also, through the Michael Newton Institute.
During my training at San Damiano, as each participant was asked to share why they were there – I sat, thinking of all the reasons, the rationale for why I chose to be there. When it came my turn to speak, I surprised myself by saying, “This is my future”. And so it has been…

What is most impactful for you in facilitating LBL journeys?
I have always felt a deep sense of gratitude for the honor of being a witness to someone’s LBL journey. I am present for a remarkable experience of healing every time I take someone down this powerful path of awakening. What I realized early on, is that no two journey’s are alike. Each person experiences a passage through the highest realms of existence – in real time, in my presence – and each session is unlike any other! It’s a beautiful and yet distinctive gift each and every time. I am invited to speak with Beings who hold the greatest wisdom and Light. I am privileged and present for the most magnificent healings that I have ever witnessed and yet, each is unique.
That being said, in the fact that each LBL is different from any other, what is so impactful for me is that they end with the same message of LOVE. Through this process, there comes understanding, insight (I love when a client stops in mid sentence during trance and says…”OH!… OH… that’s why…!” And they breathe a huge sigh of release) healing, advice, instruction and messages about purpose – but for me, the most impactful, is the Love that a person feels from their guides, soul mates, Counsel, and other loving beings. So, the seemingly separate paths all end in the same place – Love is all there is! Seriously, what could be more impactful than that?
Right. One of the beauties of LBL is that people get the experience of Love… it is so much more powerful than an intellectual idea.
What changes do you find happening for each person after an LBL?
It never fails! The first thing every person says when they awaken from an LBL is “WOW!” And because its been recorded, that amazing expression of what it was like for them is on record. It’s the energy of healing that has them exclaim in this way. Love heals. That’s the simple truth. When doing an LBL journey, experiencing the highest realms where only Love abides is a healing experience in and of itself.
Again, because each session is unique to the individual, the healing is also unique. Sometimes, there’s a huge release of old beliefs. This allows a release of fear, anger, resentment, etc. Forgiveness is another result of being awash in the embrace of loving beings. Often, understanding and knowledge is shared during an LBL and suddenly, the hate someone felt, or the sense of victimization they live in this life, is relieved. They are often able to understand the bigger picture and can then let go of the darker feelings that they have suffered this lifetime. So, each person finds some deeper sense of who they are and in that, they are able to release and renew.
This holds true for all the follow up contact I have with an LBL client. Even weeks, and sometimes years afterward, I will hear from a former client who wants to again remind me of how powerful their LBL experience was for them. They always will follow up with some type of explanation of how much better their life is now. It’s an amazing process – an amazingly powerful journey, a true healing, a Soul cleansing experience. Of course it is. It’s all about Love!
Have your clients shared anything about specific impacts the LBL experience had on them?
Yes, often clients will get in touch just to share the changes they notice in their life, after an LBL. They seem to attribute these changes to the experience they had with their Guides, Council and in the Higher Realms in general.
It seems clients gain a higher perspective during their LBL. My heart leaps for joy when, during the session, a client calls out “ OH!” – as if they have had a great revelation or they may say, “Now, I get it”, as they are exploring a problem they have had in this lifetime. This kind of exclamation is one of “epiphany” – an awakening to a deeper truth – a sudden realization about the problem that offers them relief and a deeper understanding. They then visibly relax! Often times they show great relief to finally understand the bigger picture of their life. It’s amazing to witness.
Afterwards, weeks or sometimes months later, clients will find such dramatic shifts in their life they often contact me to share their discovery. The following are offered from different clients, who have also given permission to have them shared for this article:

“I am confident and excited about the possibilities that are ahead, including solving some long-time puzzles in my life”
“But it was invaluable for me to learn so many things, so I can stop doubting myself, and stop hating those people who have made my life harder. Mostly I know I can truly be proud of myself! That is priceless”.
“I definitely feel a greater sense of peace about not having a “definitive” purpose, but rather experiencing, enjoying, and observing life, and developing many interests and talents.”
What more can I say? It is a tremendous honor to be a part of this sacred work.
How about your own experience of LBL? What changed in your life because of your own journey?
This has been a life long journey for me. So, I’ve had many awakenings along the path. Yet, my own personal LBL experience was transformative for me. The overall experience of the beauty and magnificence of the Higher Realms is enough to change someone forever. Just being in that beautiful “vibe” surrounded completely by Unconditional Love seems to wash away all negativity and toxicity experienced in a 3D lifetime! So, I came away with a sense of being “clean”, maybe a sense of “forgiveness” or “newness”. But, as life goes forward, that feeling can fade a bit – yet, the underlying knowing that there exists this Magnificence of Being – clears away fears of death, of a Hell, and the continued existential questioning of whether there even is a “life” after death! Because of my LBL experience, I understood the Truth, and those old beliefs and fears were transformed into a deep knowing that only Love Is!
In a practical way, LBL helped me to realize that each of us has a path; this path was chosen by our Soul. In walking this path – unique as it is for each person – we are offered many lessons, teachings, awareness, and growth experiences – fun times, and some awfully difficult challenges. Each experience is designed to bring us into the Light (EnLighten Us) for our Soul’s growth and expression.
For me, then, when I understood that each life has its own purpose and follows its own path – I was allowed to put away my sense of over responsibility for others, of worry and concern for those I love.
For example, I would stress myself over my children’s lives. As many parents do, I would blame myself for something that happened to them, or try to prevent them from experiencing struggles and challenges. I didn’t want to see them hurting and I was afraid they would suffer harm. My pattern was to take control, nag, worry and blame. I told myself I was protecting them (wasn’t that my job??) and it made me crazy and they didn’t like it or appreciate me, much either!
Becoming aware of the Truth, that my children have their own purpose and a path that is different from mine, that they are also guided by Love and Loved beyond imagining, I was able to release the stress and worry. offered loving support and watched in amazement as a witness to their own inner wisdom and guidance – what a wonderful gift of relief for me!
That single understanding handed me a wonderfully expansive perspective, it taught me to be in relationship with the people I love and care about – my family, my friends, my clients, and all peoples in the world, by simply trusting in their path and loving them as they walk. Just as I walk mine.
That’s what LBL has taught me.
