A Tribute to Peggy Newton

By Peter Smith

Michael Newton’s beloved wife Peggy stepped into the afterlife to join him on January 27th of this year. Her transition was peaceful and lovingly supported by their daughter Kathryn, assisted by the fact that she knew exactly where to go and what to expect.

It was only a few months earlier that she had been on a zoom call with our LBL Therapists from around the world who wanted to meet her. Her grace and wisdom came through in that call, and our people had the chance to witness first-hand the loving presence of the woman who had been Michael’s companion over the many years of his life’s work.

Some years ago, Michael talked to me about the importance of a ‘help-mate’ in a career that blazed new trails in the understanding of human consciousness. I believe that Peggy was more than that for him. She was his rock, his confidante and soul companion whose contribution to the Life Between Lives movement can never be understated.

Peggy was a nurse her whole life, held a masters in counselling, and by default became an accomplished initial editor of much of Michael’s writings. Her opinions were offered with a learned determination, bringing both perspective and vision to his emerging body of research.

When Michael was still teaching, she would come along and form part of the training team, supporting students, allocating rooms for the experientials and bringing insights to all of us. Beyond that, when you received a Peggy hug, you knew you’d been hugged. It’s like she conveyed the entire love of the spiritual realm through her small frame that seemed many times larger in that moment.

In 2009, we honoured her with the establishment of the “Peggy Newton Award” for outstanding service to The Michael Newton Institute, our highest honor and one that has only ever been awarded a handful of times. When I told her of our plans to name the award after her, she couldn’t understand why we would do that, such was the humility of this remarkable woman.

When Michael headed home in 2016, she missed him terribly, every single day, though she always felt him close by. I remember during one visit, we sat in the loungeroom reminiscing about Michael and the footrest from his favourite part of the lounge suddenly flipped up. We knew in that moment, he was listening to every word and was waiting for her to join him when she was ready.

Those of us who knew Peggy feel a deep and profound sense of loss, knowing that our human connection to the pair of souls who brought the LBL movement to the world has now come to an end.

However, beyond that we know where they are, what they are doing and feel overjoyed that they are sharing eternity together. They brought LBL to the world and now that IS their world, lovingly reunited, and we have no doubt that the ripples of that reunion are filling the universe as we speak. ♥
