Guidance through the Heart and Distinction from Self-Delusion

By Dorothea Fuckert, MD

There are two kinds of intellect; the first is acquired –
Thanks to it, you learn like a schoolboy
Books, teachers, reflection, concepts, all kinds of sciences…
You learn and your intellect grows superior.
But conserving this knowledge is always a burden.
The other intellect is God’s pure gift;
Its heart is in the breast of the soul
When the water of divine gnosis jets from the heart
It never becomes stagnant or cold or dirty.
And if it can’t flow outside, what does that matter?
It keeps foaming up from within the heart.

In SOTA #12, 2018, I had contributed a paper titled “The Universal Meaning of the Human Heart” in which I had included the findings of the HeartMath Institute, among other aspects. Appreciation, compassion, gratitude, forgiveness and peace are usually addressed in order to establish heart-brain coherence. Sometimes I wondered why joy and love were not mentioned as equivalent heart qualities in that context.

With open heart and inner receptiveness we are in a “wideband channel” for direct connection with our spirit guides and helpers. Whereas through imagination and thinking only this band is narrow. Therefore, as a facilitator I always ask my clients to phrase their life questions for LBL from their heart, not from their minds’ curiosity (see my detailed paper “Uplifting the Energetic Frequencies” in SOTA#1, 2016) I also keep them centered in their heart during the session. The heart is bondage between our inner and outer world, and most notably the bridge to becoming aware of being in two worlds, both in a higher dimension of the Soul (5D+) as well as on Earth (4D).

To go deeper inside, I learnt to retreat myself regularly each day from the outside world and to focus inside for recollection, becoming quiet, to sense and feel into the core of my heart. Here, I am able to reach blissful, expanding, unifying and the truly healing spiritual qualities. By regular contemplation and immersion the heart can be felt as a place of calm, soul-force, personal truth, higher wisdom, passion, bliss and union. At the very center of the human heart is a mysterious ground. The Sufis named it “sirr” or secret. Here, we can feel one with the Divine in all creation as well as inside.

The heart is also a place where we feel our heartache, sadness, grief, angst, loneliness and longing. For some people it even becomes the center of “The dark night of the Soul”. However, by going truthfully through these phases, by coping with the suffering, accepting and then transforming it, we become gradually and truthfully whole. Grieving is a purgation.

“You are going to die anyway, why not die, while you are alive, into the Life that will never die, into the Love that is Eternal Life?” (cited from: Light upon Light. Inspirations from Rumi, by Andrew Harvey, 1996, p. 34)

The heart can lastly be felt as the source of all-love and all-consciousness, in a sense of not-knowing but deep inner knowing. It’s a treasure chest and a cure-all, as I described in other papers and in my books. As our physical heart is the center of the material body, the spiritual heart is the center of our spiritual body, the organ of divine consciousness. Here, we can have an authentic relationship with God. (He/she whose name shouldn’t be mentioned ;-))

Mystics described the different chambers of the heart that lead us deeper and deeper into the core of our being where we are always one with the Divine. In the beginning, one needs to be alone, to allow oneself to descend from the mind into the heart. There might be a feeling like sadness or longing or just a quality of silence. Next, we need to learn to listen. Guidance through the heart is conveyed by a whispering voice herein. It’s about creating an inner space where this voice is not drowned out by distractions, by the mind or by emotions. Inner listening becomes the ear of the soul. Our heart is a sacred space of receptivity with a feminine quality to surrender into union with the Divine. Thoughts may come and go, yet if we remain in a state of inner awareness we can receive answers from our soul, guidance from our spirit helpers or just experience being infused with peace, overwhelming joy or bliss, all-love and sparks of the Divine.

Distinction from Self-Delusion:

The voice from our soul, from spirit helpers or other higher sources can be actually heard by the physical ears, heard imaginatively or spiritually without any sound, just imprinted as inner knowing. However, we should treat it with caution and common sense. What is the genuine voice of our Soul, from our spirit helpers, or a higher source and what is, in contrast, the voice of wishful thinking, of the curious mind, or of split-off parts of the psyche – in a word the ego? These aspects deceive ourselves easily by things we want to hear (or fear). There is always the risk that the ego subtly subverts inner listening for its own purpose. Many clients doubt what they received in their LBL session. Michael Newton called it the “I made everything up” syndrome. The challenge is to differ this from an appropriate, objective questioning.

The more unexpected the answer appears, the stronger the likelihood of being genuine. If a voice comes through imagination, it’s possible that we compose bit by bit what we wish to hear. A genuine spiritual response is usually very quick, clear, simple and no-fuss. Every single word can be remembered and may contain such deep meaning which a human mind could never put rapidly into human language. For contrast we may receive a sudden understanding beyond any of the words. A true answer from the soul or a higher plane is nourishing our heart, but rarely the personality self and material life. It is balancing our inner state of being.

We should pay attention to the risk of inflation, a sense of a grandiose self-importance and spiritual materialism. Instead, we need to care for natural humility and common sense. When we listen with discrimination we receive the wisdom and understanding we need, often in ways we didn’t expect. Sometimes a word or an answer – maybe unasked – or a sudden inner knowing is unexpectedly present, impressed into our heart. They are known and felt in the most interior place, in its greatest depths.

Healthy soul development can only take place by becoming deeply humane. Striving to become good, perfect or spiritual is an ego trip. It is always producing guilt feelings, hypocrisy or spiritual bypassing. We know it from human history coined by institutionalized religions with their commandments and ethical prescriptions. They never worked, but rather became destructive for a long time and on an almost global scale.

Genuine spiritual evolution needs humble acknowledgement that after an “ascension” process with transpersonal, transcendent experiences of spiritual enlightenment and expansion of consciousness, our Soul forces us down to the “here and now”, often through the body or by life events. “Ascension” actually means “descension” of higher Soul aspects. The “light body process” is a transfer of Divine light energy into the physical and material within earthly spacetime. We are anyway lovingly held and guided by our spirit helpers as well as by the greatest power of all: a Divine intent, an evolutionary plan for humankind, for Earth and all creation.

I found a beautiful paragraph in Llewellyn Vaughan-Lee’s book The Bond with The Beloved (1993, p. 26): “As we silently work upon ourselves, the energy of our devotion becomes a point of light within the world. At the present time a map is being unfolded made of the lights of the lovers of God. The purpose of this map is to change the inner energy structure of the planet. In previous ages this energy structure was held by sacred places, stone circles, temples, and cathedrals. In the next stage of our collective evolution it is the hearts of individuals who will hold the cosmic note of the planet. This note can be recognized as a song of joy being born within the hearts of seekers. It is a quality of joy that is being infused into the world. It is the heartbeat of the world and needs to be heard in our cities and towns.” ♥
